Music, Garbage and Environment Engage at
Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre
Midland,
Ontario, Tay Township ……..January 25, 2008.
The joint collaboration between Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre
and Twisted Pines Music and Arts Festival begins on February
2, World Wetlands Day with the showing of the film “Garbage”
at the Wye Marsh. This is the beginning of a Twisted Pines
Environmental Movie Series being organized by Deborah Brown
General Manager of Twisted Pines Music and Arts Festival,
and Denise Brophey, Marketing Director of the Wye Marsh. A
bonus concert on February 2nd during the lunch hour will be
performed by the The Creaking Tree String Quartet. The day’s
activities are complimentary with the price of admission.
Brown states, “We decided to launch the “Environmental
Movie Series” after discovering the number of independent
films in the genre.” The first film in the series Garbage
will play twice on Saturday February 2, followed by a March
8th, presentation of “Who Killed the Electric Car?”
Denise Brophey is thrilled with the new partnership
and says, “Wye Marsh’s hope is that the new Environmental
Movie Series they are launching at the Marsh will further
promote environmental education with a focus on current issues.
This is an opportunity to create awareness and provide information
regarding initiatives that can be taken to contribute to a
healthier environment for generations to come.”
“Garbage”, by Andrew Nisker follows
the McDonald Family with an eye opening look at our consumption
habits and waste over one of the busiest times of year--the
Christmas season. Garbage is collected starting in October
through December. The volume collected is stunning and results
in a major life-style change for the McDonald family. Andrew
Nisker will be at the Wye Marsh to discuss the film.
The
joint collaboration is a bridge building initiative, a venue
for art and music and everyone benefits. General Mills and
Super 8 are major corporate sponsors.
Brown adds, “We all appreciate how growth
in the Toronto region could encroach on this area, a place
beautiful because of its ecology but also rich in arts and
culture, the perfect community to visit, to live and retire.
The ultimate goal is to preserve and celebrate the communities
we live in North of Toronto.” For more information go
