Jasper Station
A Norm Foster Classic at the King’s Wharf Theatre
PENETANGUISHENE,
Ontario – The second production of the season at
the King’s Wharf Theatre is sure to
tickle the funny bone and touch the hearts of audiences young
and old. Norm Foster’s acclaimed Canadian
musical Jasper Station entertains audiences
for three weeks starting June 26th.
“With its distinctive characters, uniquely Canadian
setting, heartwarming message and memorable music, Jasper
Station is a must-see for all theatregoers,”
says Alex Mustakas, Artistic Director of
Drayton Entertainment.
Jasper Station tells this story of a stationmaster
and five eclectic travellers whose lives intersect as they
wait to board a train from Jasper, Alberta to Vancouver, British
Columbia: a minor-league hockey player being called up to
the Canucks, a young reporter tracking a story that will win
her a Pulitzer Prize, a B&B operator fleeing her apathetic
husband, an accountant seeking fame and fortune in country
music, and a hairdresser in a hurry to rendezvous with aliens!
While these diverse travellers appear to have little in common
with each other, they have all approached a crossroads in
their lives, and are inextricably bound by their hopes and
dreams for the future, coupled with anticipation and anxiety
about the great unknown.
“Jasper Station is a poignant, bittersweet
exploration about human connection, and how it is sometimes
easier to reveal our true selves to strangers than those we
love most,” says Mustakas. “Laugh for laugh, it
is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.”
The production is directed and choreographed by Marc
Richard, who entertained audiences last season with
his presentation of the hilarious musical comedy, Nunsense.
A stellar cast has been assembled for Jasper Station,
including audience favourite Rebecca Poff
(Man of La Mancha, The Mikado) as Emeline White, as well as
Brenley Charkow as Rebecca Townsend, Sam
Owen as Sterling Mimms, Naomi Zara
as Nikki Dunn, Laurie Murdoch as Bert Calivetti
and Graham Coffeng as Henry Keegan.
The first musical by popular Canadian playwright Norm Foster,
Jasper Station is a witty, engaging production
bound together by Foster’s winning combination of laughter
and tears, with terrific songs by Steve Thomas.
