With the announcement and publication of "Doors Open Ontario" communities across the province in 2012 will be "Defending a Nation" with the bicentennial of the War of 1812. The region of Southern Georgian Bay was a marine battleground between 1812 and 1814. In recognition of the region the Huronia Museum in Midland has invited Alan Taylor author of the "Civil War of 1812" to speak at the annual fund raising dinner on May 4, 2012. Find more information on Huronia Museum in Midland Ontario. This is the first of several events taking place in the Simcoe County area where water transportation routes from Lake Simcoe to Georgian Bay expedited needed supplies to the British in Lake Huron. There are many sites and locations for a day trip from Toronto or an overnight adventure to learn about the battles around Georgian Bay, Lake Huron.
