World's First Virtual Fresh Water Eco Museum ?Lake Huron and Georgain Bay

The idea for the creation of The Georgian Bay Eco Museum originated with Jason Taylor, former Director of Education for the Ecological Society of America (ESA) in Washington DC. Jason worked at ESA for more than 5 years until June 2007 follled by a two and a half year role as Director of the Utah Society for Environmental Education in Salt Lake City. In 2010 Jason embarked on his own eco adventure with his wife Maggie in South America. Jason will be returning to Washington D.C. in the near future.

Jason knows Ontario and Georgian Bay as he worked as a volunteer naturalist at the Wye Marsh in Midland, a paid naturalist developing programs for summer guests at Delawana Inn Resort in Honey Harbour, and a special speaker at Provincial and National Parks along the Bay. He completed his undergraduate work at Dalhousie University in Halifax, and his Graduate Work at York University in the Environmental Studies program.

Georgian Bay Eco Museum: Preserve, Protect, Promote!!

Jason has been providing valuable advice on the development of the concept which he loosely describes as:

The Georgian Bay Eco Museum is positioned to be an icon for the future and a symbol of the past. This combines both natural and living history, the environment, as well as a tribute to the pioneers, settlers and aboriginal communities who have contributed to the well being of the Georgian Bay area. The Georgian Bay Eco Museum is a virtual symbol as a web site, and a spectacular travel route by either boat, canoe, kayak, motorcycle or car, or any combination of the above.

Jason's travels still lead him back to the Georgian Bay area. He fell in love with the pristine nature, the exceptional views, flora and fauna that inhabit the area. "One of my best experience was with Lyle McIntyre, when he conducted a photographic workshop in the Snug Harbour 30,000 Islands area" states Taylor. Georgian Bay is one of the 'most understated' areas in North America. Most of my colleagues have little idea or knowledge this part of Canada. "I believe this type of museum concept will create the awareness necessary to preserve Georgian Bay as a pristine destination" adds Taylor. This site is being developed in conjunction with Robin Tapley one of Canada's foremost naturalist, and Ron Taylor (Jason's father). Taylor publishes the Travel Information North of Toronto one of Ontario's busiest travel websites promoting resort destinations north of Toronto. Robin Tapley has conducted educational wildlife interpretative programs throughout Canada and was featured in Canadian Geographic magazine Georgian Bay's 30,000 Islands and Biosphere Reserve.

Georgian College Tourism Students have contributed a valuable research project, enhancing a concept that is believed to be necessary for the long term sustainability of Georgian Bay waters and watersheds.. More information on the definition of the ecomuseum concept can be found on the Wikipedia site. If you have thoughts or ideas about this web site. Contact
