Sainte-Marie among the Hurons hosts prominent
Francophone Exhibit
Midland – From September 7th to September 25th Sainte-Marie
among the Hurons will host the travelling exhibit Ontario's
Francophonie: Then and Now. Launched in April, the travelling
exhibition features a series of 11 French and 11 English free-standing
panels. There are nine themes on the panels that represent
significant periods of Franco-Ontarian history, from 1610
to 2006. A brochure in French and English is also available
to visitors to Sainte-Marie as part of the exhibit.
The exhibition Ontario's Francophonie: Then and Now recognizes
and celebrates the history of Ontario's Francophonie, and
highlights its contribution to the province's development.
It was developed by the Office of Francophone Affairs, in
collaboration with the Vanier Museopark. The travelling exhibition
is being presented at cultural and community centres, schools,
tourism events, seminars and conferences across the province.
"We are delighted to be the first tourist attraction
to host this informative exhibit that pays tribute to Ontario's
Francophone history and culture. The exhibit allows us to
present the full spectrum of our provinces' rich Franco-Ontarian
story of which Sainte-Marie represents a very significant
period in the early history of Francophones in Ontario,"
commented Huronia Historical Parks General Manager Jan Gray.
Sainte-Marie among the Hurons is open 7 days a week 10:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to October 12th and Monday to Friday from
October 15th to November 2nd.
