Calling All Owens! Everyone is an "Owen" in Owen Sound this summer

OWEN SOUND, ON, May 23 /CNW/ - Owen Sound will celebrate its 150th anniversary of incorporation this summer by "Calling All Owens" to the city to join in the festivities. "Calling all Owens", under the city's The Sound is Calling You Home

banner, includes a written invitation to more than 1000 individuals in Ontario with the last name of Owen or Owens to travel to Owen Sound this summer to celebrate being an "Owen". It also includes special invitations to notable "Owens" such as Owen Wilson, from the hit movie The Wedding Crashers. In announcing the campaign and written invitation program at the official opening of Cobble Beach Golf Links, a new 18 hole links-style course in theTownship of Georgian Bluffs, adjacent to Owen Sound and the Premier Partner for the anniversary celebration, Owen Sound Mayor Ruth Lovell said, "The name Owen is special to us here in Owen Sound, but this summer the name Owen will mean something extra special. As far as we are concerned everyone who visits our city this summer, especially during our official Homecoming Days July 27 to August 5, will be welcomed as an "Owen".

In reference to the written invitation to Ontario "Owens", Mayor Lovell added, "As a true fellow "Owen" you, along with other notable "Owens", are invited as our special guests."

Owen Sound summer resident and St. Louis Blues goalie Curtis Sanford was recognized as the first official "Owen" and received the first "Calling All Owens" button at the launch. He agreed to be known as Curtis "Owen" Sanford during the summer birthday celebrations. "I am very honored" said the newly named Sanford. "It is indeed very special being an Owen." Mayor Lovell said the city hopes to draw interest in the 150th

Anniversary throughout southwestern Ontario, drawing ex-Owen Sounders, as well as others to the region. "Calling All Owens gives a true Owen Sound meaning to the celebration. It's progressive, fun and welcoming, just like the Owen Sound community. We hope it will encourage people to not only visit us this summer, but to look at Owen Sound as a place to live, retire or perhaps own a second home.
