First Maple Syrup Tapping of 2007 Season
During March Break
Midland,
Ontario March 2007 ………..Visitors to the Wye Marsh
on Tuesday March 13 as well as those children participating
in the day camp program will have the opportunity to celebrate
an historic ritual….the first tapping of a maple syrup tree
in the Province of Ontario. Ontario Maple Syrup Producers’
Association’s ceremonial “First Tapping”. This tradition is
to celebrate the beginning of the Maple Syrup Production Season.
Since Maple Syrup is an important part of the
fabric of this area it is well worth celebrating the start
of the season for this delicious, natural and organic product.
The program will consist of a short introduction to the proceedings,
followed by a visit to the sugar shack, and the formality
of tapping the first tree by a dignitary to officially get
the season under way.
The March Break Week
The Wye Marsh has expanded the camping programs for 2007 starting
with the March
Spring Break Program from March
12—16. The Wye Marsh an accredited member of the Ontario Camping
Association, meeting quality standards for leadership, program,
facilities and safety. Children can experience a fun-filled,
exciting adventure exploring nature's best-kept secrets
and mysteries. New for this March is a special Birds of Prey
School For Young Adults ages 12 and up.
At Wye Marsh’s “Marsh” Break Day Camp families
and kids will get to feed chickadees, see swans, go snowshoeing
and cross-country skiing, see live reptiles and amphibians,
learn about birds, nature crafts, how you can keep our planet
green, and so much more! Our enthusiastic staff is looking
forward to making the “Marsh” Break an exciting time. Register

Monday- Birds of Prey Demo 11:00 AM
& 2:00 PM
our newest and most exciting program takes to the skies. Join
a falconer for a one-hour demonstration lives Birds of Prey.
We will cover flight styles, prey and hunting, and discuss
the legends and myths, which make these fabulous animals so
interesting.
Tuesday- Guided Snowshoe Adventures
10:00-12:00 & 1:00 – 3:00
Hop into a pair of snowshoes, and take to the trails! Join
a Wye Marsh naturalist for a snowshoe adventure around the
marsh tracking the animals that call it home. Your naturalist
will give you a history of snowshoes, a quick lesson, and
lead you through a two-hour adventure studying animal tracks,
trees, and wildlife. This is a great adventure for the whole
family.
Wednesday -Wet and Scaly Reptile Shows
- 11 & 2
Here's a chance to beat your fears of some of the most
amazing creatures found in Ontario! Join our Stewardship Biology
Manager, Adrian Philpot, for an hour of fun and entertainment
as he teaches you the truth of these often misrepresented
animals. Adrian will tell you stories and interesting facts
often stranger than the myths. His years of experience and
knowledge will amaze you.
Thursday- Guided Ski Adventure 10:00
– 12:00 & 1:00 – 3:00
we want to show off our fabulous ski trails! Bring the family
for a two-hour ski around the trails of the Wye Marsh. You
trip will begin with a quick lesson on cross-country skiing
technique, and then take you into this beautiful wilderness.
Explore and experience cross-country skiing as your naturalist
guide leads you through an adventure filled with nature interpretation.
Beginner’s welcome!
Friday- Family Survival Training – 11
& 2
join us for a one-hour workshop on survival techniques for
you and your family. This one-hour workshop will show you
the basics of being prepared for survival situations, the
order of survival priorities, fire starting techniques, and
the basics of shelter building. Have fun and learn some skills
that may one day save your life!
All of these programs are included with general
admission. Pre-registration appreciated – Drop-ins welcome!

Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre is located 35 minutes
northwest of Barrie Ontario in the heart of Southern Georgian
Bay’s Historic Resort Destination in the Wye Valley, in Midland
Ontario. The Centre continues to provide outdoor experiences
and environmental education for school groups, scouts and
guides, and international visitors. The centre is open year
